Rottweiler is a large dog breed originating in Germany as herding dogs. These dog breeds were almost extinct during 1800 but they made a big comeback in the 20th century. During the first and second World Wars, Rottweilers were used as war time guard dogs. Today they are frequently used as guard and police dogs.
The average weight for these dog breeds is 130 pounds (50 kg) for males and 95 pounds (42 kg) for females. They stand 24-27 inches (61 to 68 cm) tall for the males, and 22-25 inches (56 to 63 cm) for females.
Rottweiler has a large body with a massive head, dark eyes and powerful jaws. The breed is almost always black and has a very short thick coat with clearly defined tan or brown markings on the legs, paws, muzzle and cheeks.
Rottweilers that are well trained and cared for can be well behaved as any other dog and in general they are fond of children, very devoted, quick to learn, and eager to please. Despite its threatening look, this dog breeds are a very calm dog that is easy to train and devoted to his family. This is a reliable dog breed that will protect those it loves.
The Rottweiler is one of the easiest dogs to groom, their coats tend to be low maintenance, although they experience some shedding during certain periods of the year. They merely need to be bathed when necessary and brushed with a firm bristle brush. This dog can have a tendency to overeat and you need to be careful not to overfeed it.
Rottweilers are a powerful breed with well developed genetic guarding and herding instincts, and prey drive. Dangerous behavior in Rottweilers usually results from irresponsible ownership, abuse, neglect, or lack of socialization. Therefore, it is important that they are properly trained so that they don't become aggressive. With proper handling, these dog breeds are loyal and loving companions.
